Thursday we’ve packed our bags and headed to the Dutch TT Circuit at Assen for the Dutch Supercar Challenge Final Races. The Dutch Supercar Challenge is basically the highest race competition in the Netherlands. The races are at several international circuits, such as Spa Francorchamps (BE), Donnington (GB), Hockenheim (DE), Assen (NL) and Zandvoort (NL). All sorts of cars participate in several classes, from Renault Clio’s and Ford Focus’ in the Sport Class up to the newest Ferrari 458 Italia’s and Attack Praga R4S in the GT Class.

Michael Verhagen, the driver of the Honda Verhagen S2000 racecar was going for the Sport Class this event. Rising Sun Performance was responsible to assist the team on technical grounds. As we tune and builds cars on a regular base we can add a good amount of technical information and support for the team.

Friday morning we prepared the car for the open training session and qualifications. The car sounded great with the new Rotrex Supercharger and made some very nice laps. The best time in the qualifications was a 1:55.734, good for a 7th place on the grid.

Saturday, Race one.

The Sport and Supersport-II class start together, from a rolling start. As soon as the Safety Cars went in to the pits and the green flag dropped the adrenaline started pumping to a higher level! Michael lost some places in the first laps and dropped to a 9th position. After some impressive lap times 1:53.179 Michael started to gain some places and fought himself back to a 5th place! There is a one minute pit stop mandatory for all cars. But even before this we had the 4th position! As soon as the minute dropped Mike pushed it hard and hit the 3th place! About ten minutes later the cars on the 1st and 2nd position needed to go for a one minute stop so we hit the first place! At this point everybody was going insane and it looked as it was going to be a very good weekend for the team. We managed to stay on the first place for over 20 minutes! Unfortunately the Race Control gave us a Drive Trough penalty for an incorrect pit stop. According to their information the car wasn’t standing still for one minute. This resulted to a set back to the 5th place. But the race wasn’t over, Lotus Elise driver Guillaume Schulz and Michael were struggling for the 4th position. Positions changed in every lap, it was extremely exciting untill the last turn! Michael passed the checkered flag at 4th position, well done!

Sunday, Race two.

Saturday we’ve prepared the car directly after the race for race 2 on Sunday. New Dunlop Slicks, new fuel and new energy for Michael. immediately in the first lap Mike got hit from behind and a BMW smashed up the S2000′s rear bumper and tail light. We tried to keep the car on the track as long as possible but the race control gave us the ‘Meatball’ and we needed to remove the bumper. This resulted in a lot of set backs in the positions and we needed to fight back! But luck wasn’t on our side on this Sunday. After some laps Mike came in to the pits with a technical problem, the supercharger belt was gone. It all looked like the race was over… But that’s not how we roll! We pushed the car into the box and with an incredible mindset and adrenaline rush we’ve managed to take off the supercharger system, replace the belt and get the car back on the track in less than a half an hour! Mike made some great laps and we started to have a small smile on our faces again. After around ten laps the checkered flag waved. We made it to the end. Unfortunately the S2000 didn’t do 75% of the race and did not qualify for the rankings. However, the team effort was great! All the Honda fans were surprised that we’ve managed to get the car back on the track again.

All in all it was a very good, instructive weekend which promises a lot for the next season. Luckily we have enough time in the winter period to find a way to improve the supercharger system for all the beating in 2012. The track was completely wet when Joost and Tom (DC5) got out on the track. Tom went out on his Toyo R888 Semi’s, a complete new experience for him was to drive on a wet track. First up was the warm up and qualification. He did very good, but as we know everybody crashes or spins… Fortunately Tom spun out on a save spot on the track and managed to control his Integra. He came back in the pit lane with a big smile, guess he had some fun! Qualification Time for Tom was 2:10.215

Joost went out on his Toyo Proxes R1R’s, they warm up a little faster so grip is better achievable. Joost got to know his car in a few rounds and his lap times were getting better and better. His Qualification time was 2:08.257. Impressive!

Later in the day it was time for the finals, luckely the track got completely dry and it was time to but the pedal to the metal! Both cars now on the Toyo R888 Semi’s. Tom pushed his car and himself to a new limit, kicking it hard he came to a 2:07.811 lap time. Good to claim the 4th position!

Joost didn’t manage to put down a faster time than he already drove in the Q1, better luck next time!

Fortunately Joost gave us the opportunity to get a JDM DC5 K20A engine under the hood. We’ve been working very hard on it last week, but the results are amazing! We’re the first in the Netherlands  that broke the 250HP border on a stock K20A engine with just bolt-ons and a perfect engine tune and Joost’s car is the first Dutch DC2 with the all mighty K20A engine conversion!

The car made 252HP and 235Nm and it’s leaving a huge impression when you’re hitting the gas pedal!
